Dill Pickles (or Pickled Beans, Pickled Carrots)

Ingredients
1 qt.Water
1 c.Vinegar
1⁄4 c.Salt
1⁄2 t.Alum

Cut cucumbers (or beans or carrots) and put into jars. Put bunch of dill on top of cucumbers. Heat mixture and pour over cucumbers. Seal. Process for 5 minutes. Makes about 4 quarts pickles.
