3/4 c. Shortening

2-1/4 c. Cake Floursifted

1 c. Sugar

1 t. Baking Powder

1 t. Salt

3/4 t. Baking Soda

3/4 t. Cinnamon

1/2 t. Cloves

3/4 c. Brown Sugar

1 c. Buttermilk

3 Eggs
Directions
Stir shortening just to soften. Sift in dry ingredients, except brown sugar. Add brown sugar and buttermilk and stir well until all flour is dampened. Then beat vigorously for 2 minutes. Add eggs. Beat 2 minutes more. Bake in 2 paper-lined 9″ round pans at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes (20 minutes for cupcakes).
